The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of labor market institutions on employment commitment. That is, in view of institutionalism, the relationship between welfare state institutions and employment commitment is empirically analyzed. For this, we utilized 2005 ISSP (International Social Survey Programme) module with 18 OECD countries including South Korea. The analysis was performed using multi-level analysis to research into the interaction between individual and national variables The major findings of this study are as follows. First, in individual level, sex, age, education, the state of employment, and subjective class identification have a significantly positive effect on employment commitment. Second, in institutional level, unemployment benefits` generosity and public expenditure on active labour market policies have a significantly positive influence on employment commitment. With this results, the authors suggest welfare state positively affects the employment commitment, work value and work orientation.
